About Joe

Joe Markland is the Founder of N4One HR and Benefits LLC. N4one HR and Benefits is a new type of Employee Benefit and Human Capital Management company focused on helping employers help their employees “Have a Better Day”. We believe that the current “one-size-fits-all” nature of today’s employee benefits market does not meet the needs of individual employees who have different needs. Our “Precision HR and Benefits” model is designed to deliver an alternative HR and Benefits program to meet the needs of each individual.

Previously he was President and Co-Founder of HR Technology Advisors (HRT) who became ProHCM and Co-founder of the ProSential Group. HR Technology Advisors helped insurance brokers and their customers automate HR, Benefits, and Payroll by recommending and implementing systems. The ProSential Group is a national employee benefits brokerage organization consisting of 60 employee benefits firms across the U.S.. These organizations pool their resources and intellectual capital to expand their capabilities in the market and improve their competitive position.

Joe started his career as a financial analyst at General Electric before entering the employee benefits business with UNUM as a sales rep in their Michigan office. Joe then moved to Allmerica Financial as a sales rep in Boston before taking over Michgan Office as the youngest Manager in the company. Joe grew the Michigan operation from a $3 million business to close to $100 million in 7 years.

In 1997 Joe entered the technology business as the President of StarNex. StarNex developed web-based rating systems for employee benefits organizations. In 2001 Joe sold the business and started what is now HR Technology Advisors. HRT is known as the premier technology consulting firm for employee benefits brokers in the U.S.. HRT serves over 200 employee benefit organizations throughout the U.S and has consulted and/or implemented solutions to over 1000 companies on HR and Benefits Technology.

Joe is known as an industry expert and visionary in the HR and Benefits Technology market. He has published many articles on HR and Benefits Technology and speaks regularly at industry conferences.

Joe is a graduate of Williams College where he played varsity baseball and football. He is married to his wife Kim and has a son Michael and daughter Lauren. Joe enjoy coaching sports, umpiring baseball, golf, skiing, biking, and reading.
